Calcium hypochlorite is a white or off-white crystalline powder with a strong chlorine odor. It is a widely used chlorine-based disinfectant and bleaching agent, highly soluble in water to release hypochlorous acid (HClO) which exerts strong oxidizing, bactericidal and bleaching effects
